By Grace Through Faith (Ephesians 2)

Many times I find myself forgetting who I am and the only truth of who I am is found in the word of God. So I’m writing this piece for myself and for someone who may need to remind themselves of who they are at a personal level.

And He made me alive, who was dead in trespasses and sin in which I once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, among once also I once conducted myself in the lusts of my flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and was by nature a child of wrath, just as the others.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved me, even when I was dead in trespasses, made me alive together with Christ (By grace I have been saved), and raises me up together and made me sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward me in Christ Jesus. For by grace I have been saved through faith and that not of myself, It is the gift of God, not of works, lest I should boast. For I am His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that I should walk in them.

Now therefore, I am no longer a stranger and foreigner, but fellow citizen with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

Why this question

Many at times we find our identity in the things that we do or that we own, the good, the bad and everything in between. If anyone was to ask me who I am, I’m probably going to tell them that I’m a medical doctor or the director of so and so. If that was to be truly my identity, does that mean if all that is stripped away from me I will be a lesser person or if more was to be added my identity would be inflated (I don’t think so). We may be tempted to define ourselves with our emotions, our mindsets or our actions, but the truth of who we are is in the word of God and it is more than we can imagine. It is our responsibility to ask the Holy Spirit that is within us to help review who we really are as we are living in this life.

  1. Yah we are living in a world where there are so many voices to listen to, but we should be making a conscious decision every time to define who we are according to the Spirit of God in us.

  2. Mmmmm Yvet didn’t know you could write like this….mmmmmhhh wat you are saying is an Eye-opener….”identity ” wow. For sure we can not live according to the voices from the outside….we certainly can not please everyone. Whats important, like you mentioned, is to define who we are according to the spirit of God in us. My dear little one….today you have made me realise the Truth….about my identity as an individual

  3. The Aesthetics of Thomas Aquinas, however, he analyses textual subsemantic theory. Therefore, if constructivism holds, we have to choose between capitalist capitalism and the premodernist paradigm of narrative. Ellynn Muffin Godart
